Ethan went into the kitchen and opened the fridge.
Carrie: Ethan, are you hungry?
Ethan: Yes, Mom.
Carrie: Should we get dinner started?
Ethan: No.
Carrie: Don't you want dinner?
Ethan: No, Mom.
Carrie: (thinking...) Do you want lunch?
Ethan: Yes, lunch.
Carrie: Okay, we'll make lunch then.

Marcus started this all on his own yesterday. It surprised us, and we almost missed it.
Carrie: Ready...Set...

Okay, I am quite proud of this one, because even though I didn't plan it, it worked out just as I would have planned it.
Alyssa and Ethan were supposed to finish all of their dinner before they could watch their movie, and they both told Carrie that they were too full to eat any more. Ethan kept saying, "I'm done, Mom...I'm done Mom."
Alyssa: Okay, Mom, just how much of this do I have to eat? This piece and this piece?
Carrie: Well, let me ask you this: How much of the movie would you like to watch?
Alyssa: The whole thing.
Carrie: Then you'd better eat the whole thing.

Alyssa: Mom, I need to take a baby doll and a pillow to school today.
Carrie: No you don't.
Alyssa: Yes I do.
Carrie: No you don't.
Alyssa: Yes I do! I need to take a baby doll and a pillow to school!
Carrie: If you were supposed to take those to school, honey, your teacher would have sent a note home with you.
Alyssa: She did! She did, Mom! Today is career day!
Carrie: Oh yeah, she did. (pause) So why do you need to take a baby doll and a pillow?
Alyssa: I want to be a mom. I'm going to carry around the doll for my baby, and I'm going to stuff the pillow up my shirt so I look pregnant.
Carrie: (even bigger pause) I don't think you should go to kindergarten pregnant.
Alyssa always says that when she grows up she wants to be a mom and a crossing guard, so she went ahead and dressed up as a crossing guard, since a lot of them are moms, too.
Carrie: No you don't.

Marcus saw a poster of two cougars at Brian's parents house. He got very happy and said:
Kitty!

This morning Alyssa came downstairs, and a little while later opened the dvd cupboard and started fishing through for a movie. (I need to get a better lock for it.)
Carrie: What are doing?
Alyssa: Finding a movie.
Carie: Well, I don't think I want you guys watching a movie just now.
Alyssa: (turns to look at Carrie, staring her down rather seriously) But it makes us happy. Even the boys. It makes us all happy.

We went to a car wash today. Ethan liked it, and this showed while he was saying our evening prayer.
Ethan: Heavenly Father...thank you - day...thank you - car wash...
Brian: Thank you for...
Ethan: Car wash.
Brian: Thank you for...
Ethan: Car wash.
Brian: yes, we're all thankful for the car wash.
